Two KoRS-CB fellows appointed for a Zukunftskolleg membership 2017

14.12.2016  Associated Fellows of the Zukunftskolleg are young researchers of the University of Konstanz who have been awarded within the Zukunftskolleg’s funding programmes, or by an official proposal. The KoRS-CB Executive Board selects and nominates two early-stage researchers as Associated Fellows once a year.  Franziska Doll (Zumbusch group) and Simon Geigges (Marx group) will be joining the Zukunftskolleg as associated fellows in 2017.


Forschungspreis der Dr. Karl Helmut Eberle-Stiftung für Prof. Dr. Sebastian Polarz und PD Dr. David Schleheck

28.11.2016 Die Dr. Karl Helmut Eberle-Stiftung vergibt erstmals ihren Preis für herausragende wissenschaftliche Vorhaben an Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler der Universität Konstanz. Die im Jahr 2016 mit 300.000 Euro dotierte Auszeichnung erhalten der Chemiker Prof. Dr. Sebastian Polarz und der Biologe PD Dr. David Schleheck für ein gemeinsames interdisziplinäres Projekt zum Schutz vor bakterieller Besiedelung auf Oberflächen. Dazu werden sie sogenannte Nanofabriken entwickeln. Die festliche Preisverleihung findet am Mittwoch, 30. November 2016, um 16 Uhr im Senatssaal statt. Pressemitteilung


Lush Prize für Prof. Dr. Marcel Leist und Giorgia Pallocca

14.11.2016 Für die Erforschung und Entwicklung von Chemikalientests, die ohne Tierversuche auskommen und präzisere Ergebnisse als Tierversuche liefern, wurden Biologen der Universität Konstanz gleich zweifach mit dem Lush Prize 2016 ausgezeichnet: Prof Dr. Marcel Leist, Professor für In-Vitro-Toxikologie und Biomedizin an der Universität Konstanz, erhält den Lush Prize in der Kategorie „Forschung“. Die Doktorandin Giorgia Pallocca, Mitarbeiterin in der Arbeitsgruppe von Marcel Leist, wird in der Kategorie „Nachwuchsforscher“ mit dem Lush Prize ausgezeichnet.  Pressemitteilung

Bayer Early Excellence in Science Award 2015 for Prof. Dr. Tanja Gaich

06.12.2015 Professor Tanja Gaich received the Early Excellence in Science Award from Professor Andreas Busch (left), member of the Executive Committee of the Bayer-Division Pharmaceuticals and head of Drug Discovery, and Professor Michael Brands (right), head of Medicinal Chemistry Berlin at Drug Discovery. Gaich produced synthetic taxol derivatives. In nature, small quantities of taxol can be isolated from the bark of the Pacific yew. The award from the Bayer Science & Education Foundation is endowed with 10.000€.


Konstanz Symposium Chemical Biology 2015: Poster prize for Lena Wurmthaler

09.10.2015 Lena Wurmthaler (Hartig group) was awarded at the biennially Symposium of KoRS-CB with a poster prize. Along with 50 doctoral researchers she presented her poster during the poster session on 8 October 2015. Selma Eising (Radboud University) and Martin Reynders (LMU Munich) were also awarded.


Marcel Leist: Animal Welfare Prize appreciates Research on substitutes for animal testing

Daniel Summerer mit dem Förderpreis der Hellmut Bredereck-Stiftung ausgezeichnet

14.09.2015 Prof. Dr. Daniel Summerer wurde beim „Wissenschaftsforum Chemie 2015“ in Dresden mit dem Förderpreis der Hellmut Bredereck-Stiftung geehrt. Er erhält den mit 2.000 Euro dotierten Preis für seine hervorragenden Leistungen auf dem Gebiet der bioorganischen Chemie. Pressemitteilung

VAA-Stiftungspreis: Dr. Stephan Hacker

03.11.2014 Also in the second year of its existence the VAA-Stiftungspreis was awarded to a KoRS-CB fellow. Stephan Hacker, fellow until June 2014, who enrolled via Konstanz Fast Track, impressed with his doctoral thesis, which he performed in the Marx group. The prize was awarded at a ceremony at the Humboldt-University Berlin.


Ernst-Award for Moritz J. Schmidt

21.10.2014 At the 36th Discussion Meeting of the Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy Division of the German Chemical Society (Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker, GDCh) Moritz J. Schmidt, KoRS-CB scholarship holder and member of the group of Dr. Daniel Summerer, was awarded with the Ernst-Award 2014. The prize is named after the swiss Nobel Prize Winner of 1991, Prof. Dr. Richard R. Ernst, and awards outstanding doctoral researchers for a publication showing new, creative, and/or innovative methodical approaches of using NMR. Pressemitteilung


Christian Schmidt receives Dietrich H. Boesken-Award and VEUK Prize 2014

17.10.2014 On 16 and 17 October Christian Schmidt, KoRS-CB fellow since March 2014 in the group of Marcus Groettrup, was awarded with two prizes at the University of Konstanz. On Thursday the alumni association VEUK awarded its annually prize within the academic ceremony of the department of Biology. On Friday the Dietrich H. Boesken-Award followed at the Dies Academicus of the University.

Both prizes awarded Christian Schmidt's master thesis "Consequence of Immunoproteasome Inhibition or Deficiency on Signal Transduction via the T Cell Receptor". Here you can watch a video about the awarded work.


LUKS-Preis: Martin Scheffner and Helmut Cölfen

17.10.2014 Two Principal Investigators of KoRS-CB were awarded at this year’s Dies Academicus with a prize given by the students of the University of Konstanz for outstanding teaching, known as LUKS-Preis. The students of the department of Biology awarded Martin Scheffner, from the department of Chemistry the prize goes to Helmut Cölfen.


Dr. Malte Drescher mit dem Heisenberg-Stipendium ausgezeichnet

20.01.2014 Dr. Malte Drescher, PI und Mitglied des KoRS-CB Executive Boards, wurde von der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) mit dem renommierten Heisenberg-Stipendium ausgezeichnet. Drescher forscht und lehrt seit 2008 am Fachbereich Chemie der Universität Konstanz und erhält das Stipendium für seine erfolgreichen Arbeiten auf dem Gebiet der Elektronenspinresonanz-Spektroskopie (ESR-Spektroskopie). Two new associated memberships at the Zukunftskolleg in 2014

 15.12.2013 Anette Brockmann from the Brunner Group, and Michael Weiß from the Schleheck Group were nominated for a membership at the Zukunftkolleg at the University of Konstanz. They benefit from this unique institution which offers up-and-coming scientists and scholars a creative space to pursue outstanding research. The inspiring community of young scientists generates far-reaching ideas and continuously developing research approaches: inventive, exciting and pointing the way to the future.


VAA-Stiftungspreis: Dr. Ricarda Miller

31.10.2013 Der Verband angestellter Akademiker und leitender Angestellter der chemischen Industrie (VAA) verleiht zum ersten Mal den VAA-Stiftungspreis für herausragende Leistungen an insgesamt vier junge Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler. Darunter ist auch eine Konstanzer Chemikerin und Alumna der Konstanz Research School Chemical Biology, Dr. Ricarda Miller (2. v.r.). Mit dem VAA-Stiftungspreis soll ein Ideenaustausch zwischen der wissenschaftlichen Forschung und der Industrie angeregt werden. Die Preisverleihung fand am 31. Oktober 2013 an der Universität Konstanz statt.

17.10.2013 Two KoRS-CB fellows received a "VEUK-Preis" in 2013: Andreas Heim (Mayer Group) and Julia Laufer (Legler Group) were awarded for their master thesis' in the Department of Biology The prize is annually awarded by the VEUK (“Verein der Ehemaligen der Universität Konstanz”) and was handed over at the Dies Academicus of the Department of Biology.


Poster Prizes: Karin Betz, Charlotte Rehm, Ivan Zemskov

11.10.2013 Karin Betz (Marx Group), Charlotte Rehm (Hartig Group) and Ivan Zemskov (Wittmann Group) were awarded with a DECHEMA-Poster Prize at the Konstanz Symposium Chemical Biology, taking place 10-11 October 2013. They presented their work at a poster session along with other KoRS-CB doctoral researchers to the conference's participants and an international jury. Find out more about the symposium here.


ERC Advanced Grant for Prof. Andreas Marx

18.09.2013 The chemist Professor Dr. Andreas Marx from Konstanz was awarded the renowned ERC Advanced Grant by the European Research Council (ERC) for developing new diagnostic procedures on the basis of DNA methylation. The five-year research project at the University of Konstanz is being supported by the European Research Council with approximately 2.5 million euros. Press Release


Marcel Leist receives Felix Wankel Animal Welfare Award

12.04.2013 For his work on alternative methods to animal testing the toxicologist Prof. Dr. Marcel Leist received the € 15,000 Felix Wankel Animal Welfare Research award. In his research and with his social commitment, Professor Leist promotes the development of alternative methods to animal experiments in Safety testing of chemicals for years. 27.02.2013 Moritz J. Schmidt, scholarship holder of the Konstanz Research School Chemical Biology, will be honoured for his excellent study wird für seine exzellenten Studienleistungen im Fach Life Science mit dem Hoechst-Doktorandenstipendium ausgezeichnet. 18.10.2012 Four KoRS-CB members were awarded with the "VEUK-Preis" in 2012: Annette Buntz (Zumbusch Group) for the best bachelor thesis within the study programme "Life Science" in the Department of Chemistry. Arthur Fischbach was awarded for his bachelor thesis in the course Biological Sciences. Both joined KoRS-CB as doctoral researcher via Konstanz Fast Track. Christoph Paone (Hauck Group) received a prize for their master thesis in the Department of Biology and Tatjana Schneider (Marx Group) for her master thesis in the Life Sciences. The prize is annually awarded by the VEUK (“Verein der Ehemaligen der Universität Konstanz”) and was handed over at the DIES ACADEMICUS of the Department of Biology.

Jörg Hartig erhält Chemie-Preis der Akademie der Wissenschaften zu Göttingen

08.12.2011 Professor Jörg Hartig has been awarded with the "Chemie-Preis der Akademie der Wissenschaften zu Göttingen" for his outstanding research on the chemical biology of nucleic acids. The donors of the prize are Dyneon GmbH and the "Fonds der Chemischen Industrie". Jörg Hartig is professor at the University of Konstanz since 2006 with his research group "Chemical and Synthetic Biology of Nucleic Acids" and acts as principal investigator of the Konstanz Research School Chemical Biology. Nycomed Young Talents Award: Juliane Leutzow & Isabelle Seemann

25.11.2011 Two doctoral researchers of the Konstanz Research School Chemical Biology, Juliane Leutzow (Groth Group) and Isabelle Seemann (Hartig Group) received the Nycomed Young Talents Award: Isabelle Seemann in the field of chemical biology, Juliane Leutzow in the field of chemistry. Together with three doctoral researchers from the Departments of Biology and Physics, they share a total amount of 20.000 Euro. 24.10.2011 The American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology awarded Erica Cirri (Apell Group) in recognition of her selection as a Best Presentation award at the ASBMB Special Symposium "Na, K-ATPase and Related P-ATPases: Structures, Biology and Medicine" held at Asilomar Conference Grounds, Pacific Grove, CA on 27 September – 2 October 2011.

Altex Award 2011: Philipp Kügler

22.07.2011 For the publication "Markers of murine embryonic and neural stem cells, neurons and astrocytes: reference points for developmental neurotoxicity testing" (ALTEX 2010, 27-1, 17-42) Philipp Kügler (Leist Group) received the Altex Award 2011 for the best scientific article in this journal within the year 2010.


Estonian retreat speaker prizes: Elisabeth Stürner & Tobias Strittmatter

28.05.2011 Two doctoral researchers of the Konstanz Research School Chemical Biology, Elisabeth Stürner and Tobias Strittmatter, were awarded for the best talks at the Summer School "Protein Modification in Health and Disease" which took place from 25-28 May 2011 at Vihula Manor, Estonia. The summer school was focused on cell biology. Graduate students from the University of Tartu and the University of Konstanz got the opportunity to present their own scientific projects by oral or poster presentation. Four doctoral students from KoRS-CB participated in this scientific event (read their report).


Prof. Dr. Alexander Bürkle erhält den GT-Toxicology-Preis für seine Forschung zur DNA-Reparatur

01.04.2011 Für seine Forschungsarbeit an den Mechanismen der DNA-Reparatur wurde derKonstanzer Biomediziner Prof. Dr. Alexander Bürkle von der Gesellschaft für Toxikologieund der Zeitschrift "Toxikologie" mit dem GT-Toxicology-Preis ausgezeichnet. Alexander Bürkle, Professor für Molekulare Toxikologie im Fachbereich Biologieder Universität Konstanz, erforscht die Zusammenhänge zwischen den Funktionender Erbgut-Reparatur und dem Alterungsprozess sowie der Krebsentstehung. Karl-Winnacker-Dozentenstipendium: Jörg Hartig

25.11.2010 Prof. Dr. Jörg Hartig, Principal Investigator der Konstanz Research School Chemical Biology, wird als herausragender Nachwuchswissenschaftler mit dem Karl-Winnacker-Dozentenstipendium ausgezeichnet. Das Stipendium ist mit 37.500 Euro dotiert. Zusätzlich erhält der Preisträger 35.000 Euro für Sachmittel oder eine Doktorandenstelle. Das Karl-Winnacker-Dozentenstipendium wird erstmals über den Fonds der Chemischen Industrie vergeben. 


VEUK-Preis 2010: Holger Bußkamp

15.10.2010 Holger Bußkamp (Marx Group) who entered the Konstanz Research School Chemical Biology via fast track, has been awarded with the "VEUK-Preis" 2009/10 for the best master thesis within the study programme "Life Science" in the Department of Chemistry. The prize is annually awarded by the VEUK (“Verein der Ehemaligen der Universität Konstanz”) and was handed over at the DIES ACADEMICUS on 14 October 2010.

30.09.2010 Miriam Koch (Deuerling Group) got a poster prize at the PhD Symposium "Horizons in Molecular Biology" which took place in Göttingen, Germany, from September 28-30, 2010.

Carl-Zeiss-Stipendium: Bastian Holzberger

30.06.2010 Bastian Holzberger (Marx Group) received a stipend from the Carl-Zeiss-Stiftung. His research project "Directed Evolution of DNA-Polymerases" will be funded from Juli 2010 on. Pressemitteilung

The Zukunftskolleg at the University of Konstanz promotes young talents to perform outstanding research in an excellent environment. Jutta Mayer from the group of Alasdair Cook and Martin Dauner from the Wittmann group were awarded.


VEUK-Preis 2009: Ricarda Miller, Christian Jüngst, Zarko Kulic, Dominik Pöltl

16.10.2009 Ricarda Miller (Groth group), Christian Jüngst (Zumbusch group), Zarko Kulic (Möller group), and Dominik Pöltl (Leist group) got the annually "VEUK-Preis" (Verein der Ehemaligen und Freunde der Universität Konstanz e.V.). Ricarda Miller and Zarko Kulic were awarded for the best diploma thesis in the Department of Chemistry, Christian Jüngst for the best diploma thesis in Life Science, and Dominik Pöltl for the best master thesis in Biological Sciences. The prize was handed over during the Dies Academicus 2009 at the University of Konstanz.

30.03.2009 Maike Voges (Hauck Group) was awarded with a poster prize on occasion of the 32nd annual meeting of the German Society for Cell Biology taking place in Konstanz from 24-27 March 2009.


2008

Zukunftskolleg memberships for KoRS-CB fellows

15.09.2008 Steffen Preißler and Markus Wieland were awarded with a membership from the Zukunftskolleg at the University of Konstanz. The funding starts in October 2008. Both belong to the first generation of KoRS-CB fellows, Steffen Preißler is performing his doctoral thesis in the Deuerling lab and Markus Wieland belongs to the group of Jörg Hartig.


Dietrich H. Boesken-Preis: Silvia Eger

24.10.2008 Silvia Eger (Marx Group) was awarded with the Dietrich H. Boesken-Preis 2008 for the best master thesis of Konstanz University. The price has been newly founded in 2008 and was handed over on 24 October 2008.


VEUK-Preis 2008: Bastian Holzberger

24.10.2008 Bastian Holzberger (Marx Group) got the "VEUK-Preis" 2007/2008 for the best diploma thesis in Chemistry. The prize is annually awarded by the “Verein der Ehemaligen der Universität Konstanz” (VEUK) and was handed over within the ceremony of Dies Academicus, 24 October 2008.

24.10.2008 Prof. Dr. Jörg Hartig received the "Preis des Universitätsrates" 2007. He was awarded for his extraordinary commitment to the application of Konstanz Research School Chemical Biology within the framework of the German Excellence Initiative.
