To enrol in the graduate school, students are normally required to hold a Master degree in Biology, Chemistry, or related subjects. However, outstanding students of the Master courses at the Konstanz Departments of Biology and Chemistry are able to apply to embark on the doctoral thesis in the graduate school without performing a Master Thesis via the Konstanz Fast Track system.

To enter the Fast Track system, students must have an excellent study record and a proven interest into Chemical Biology. In addition, and most importantly, the topic of the doctoral project must be clearly related to the priority topics of the graduate school.

After the first six months, the respective doctoral students have to hand in their six months proposal according to the "General conditions" of the graduate school. Together with an oral defence, the proposal will be graded by the respective Thesis Committee and can be accredited as Master thesis.
